Colum McCann, Alessandro Zaccuri

The gratitude of listening

Colum McCann's novels reflect on the power of listening: listening means opening oneself to complexity, understanding others, and respecting their stories. This attitude is now more necessary than ever to empathize with an increasingly divided world and a deeply wounded humanity. For McCann, who will be in conversation with the Italian writer Alessandro Zaccuri, stories have the power to heal us, even in the darkest times. They help us overcome painful challenges, to free ourselves from the weight of resentment and rediscover gratitude towards others through forgiveness – an act that requires deep inner strength. To tell a story means to share, to fill a void, to transform silence into new connections that may save us, turning a burden into a source of growth and hope.
