Event #3
Paolo Giordano
Wonder between nature and knowledge
Wonder at nature is a feeling that comes before awareness. We experience it from childhood, out of pure instinct; it concerns everyone and requires no learning. Those who devote themselves to natural sciences often do so to investigate that sense of wonder. Studying science can, indeed, reveal previously unknown connections existing in the universe and in ecosystems. However, could knowledge also entail a loss of wonder? Knowing more could also mean losing something of our magical relationship with nature? In recent decades, science, above all, has shown the vulnerability of our planet and exposed its forms of contamination. A reflection between science and literature, to investigate the fragility of our fascination with the natural world, in a present of environmental crises.
