Taking care of oneself, of others, of the world

We come into the world without a defined form and with the task of finding a sense to the time that we are given to live in this world. When we come into the world, we face the ontological responsibility of taking care of life. Taking care means answering the need of «ulteriority» and planning a future in which the possibility of being alive may flourish. As human beings cannot dominate their experiences but they always depend on others, taking care of their lives can only mean taking care of oneself, of others, of the world.

Luigina Mortari teaches Epistemology of Qualitative Research at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Verona, where she directs the Melete Research Center on the Ethics of Care. Her research fields are the philosophy and ethics of care, as well as the theories and methods of qualitative research. She has published 22 books and many scientific articles. She is currently involved in the establishment of Schools of Care. Among her recent works are: Spiritualità e politica (editor, 2018), MelArete. Cura, etica, virtù (2019), published by Vita e Pensiero; Filosofia della cura (2015), La sapienza del cuore (2017), Aver cura di sé (2019), La sapienza politica (2024), published by Cortina.
